Bitter melon

Latin name: Momordica charantia

Bitter melon is a fruit that can be found in many Asian grocery stores. As its name indicates, the very bitter fruit. It is also available in the liquid extract and capsules forms.

Diabetes

Bitter melon is used primarily for type 2 diabetes, although the studies are needed to prove its effectiveness.

Bitter melon is considered quite safe, as it is widely consumed as a food in Asia.

Side effects may include diarrhea and stomach pain.

Bitter melon can reduce sugar in the blood and insulin levels, therefore it should not be combined with medication for diabetes or any other drug that affects sugar blood unless under the supervision of a physician.
