What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork. The word shiatsu means "finger pressure", and shiatsu is often described as finger pressure massage. Such as acupuncture, shiatsu is based on the holistic system of traditional Chinese medicine, where the disease appears to result from imbalances in the natural flow of energy or qi (pronounced "chee") through the body.

Shiatsu therapists use finger and palm pressure energetic channels, called meridians to improve the flow of qi.

A scientific explanation is that shiatsu calm a hyperactive sympathetic nervous system, improves circulation, relieves the rigid muscles and reduces the stresss.

The shiatsu therapist applies using his fingers, thumbs and/or Palm trees in a continuous rhythmic sequence of pressure.

Pressure feels more localized, because unlike other types of massage, the finger pads are used to apply pressure for most of the treatment instead of the entire Palm.

Some pressure points feel tender, which some people describe it as "good bread."

If you feel any discomfort or pain during the treatment, talk to your therapist and it or it la the pressure to make it comfortable for you.

Most people say shiatsu is also relaxing to classical forms of massage therapy.

The treatment is done on a small massage or on the floor table.

Unlike other forms of massage, shiatsu no massage oil is applied, so you stay fully invested during treatment. You will be asked to bring comfortable clothes to wear.
