What is Pancha Karma?

Pancha karma is a cleaning and Ayurvedic rejuvenation plan. It was developed at the royalty in India extend the life and health through the Elimination of physical impurities, bringing awareness to destructive thoughts and behaviors and releasing old habits.

Pancha Karma is usually once a year for the prevention of disease and emotional and spiritual growth.

Pancha Karma is divided into three phases:

Phase 1: Brahma Karma, the preparation Phase
The objective of Brahma Karma is to prepare the tissues of the body for the cleaning and the release of toxins. One to three weeks before the actual cleaning phase, eliminate you all processed foods, candies, stimulants such as coffee and most dairy products from your diet.

A week before the cleaning phase, the diet is changed, becoming mainly vegetables and whole grains. These foods, including vegetables, create a more alkaline environment (vs acid) in the body, which supports the process of cleansing and detoxification.

During this phase of preparation, activity of the person moves to become more focused internally. This means a release of some daily activities and speding time meditating and taking walks in the nature. Breathing deep, based on the phase exhalation helps rid the body of old ideas, emotions and blockages.

Khichadi recipe
Khichadi is a simple, easily digested stew which may prepare the body for cleaning. It is also coming off the coast of treatment. Here is a type of Khichadi:
1 part Brown basmati rice, soak for at least 1/2 hour and drained
1 part mung beans, soaked in water for at least 1 hour and drained
1 part vegetables such as green beans, carrots, spinach and other green vegetables
6 parts water

Ghee (clarified butter) heat or olive oil in a frying pan to medium heat. Add cumin or coriander seeds. Then add 1 medium onion, finely chopped, minced ginger and garlic and saute until golden brown. Incorporate 1 spoon coffee of turmeric powder, 1/4 black pepper powder tea and 1 bay leaf. Add the beans mung, of water, vegetables and rice.

Cook for about an hour. When the beans are completely soft, add a pinch of salt. Serve this dish with clarified butter and chopped fresh coriander leaves.

Ghee (clarified butter)
Ghee is made by placing the butter unsalted in a pan and leaving the melt and simmer firearms very soft. Butter may appear cloudy and there is foam at the top. During the first five minutes, mix the butter occasionally. Let the butter continue simmering for 15 minutes. You will see the particles sink to the bottom of the pan and foam will settle at the Summit.

As soon as the sediment at the bottom begin to brown, remove the saucepan from heat. Skim and discard foam. The liquid through a sieve fine or chiffon of strain in a glass jar.

Phase 2: Pancha Karma, the Phase of cleaning
Originally, this phase consisted of five practices: nasal cleansing enemas, laxatives, vomiting (vomiting) and bleeding. Although the five practices are followed in India, the practice of vomiting and bleeding is omitted in North America.

A quick cleaning is often used during this period.

Fasting
1. Drink herbal fasting is taken throughout the day.

Herbal drink recipe
8 cups of water
4 teaspoons of cumin and coriander powder
8 cardamom pods
4 teaspoons of crushed fennel seeds
2 pinch of black pepper
1/2 teaspoon ginger powder (or 3 slices fresh ginger)
Mix all ingredients in a pan and bring to a boil. Let simmer 5 minutes, then remove from heat and keep cover for 15 to 20 minutes. Strain through a sieve and hot drink throughout the day.

2 Have 1-2 tsp butter clarified with hot water in the morning on an empty stomach. This is believed to release toxins.
